Most of us are aware of Trisomy 21 otherwise known as Down Syndrome but there are many more trisomy conditions that cause a variety of health problems ranging from mild intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) to more severe physical problems.
When children are identified with developmental delays the first place to find services is the Children's Developmental Services Agency (CDSA). Children birth to 3 years old can be evaluated and, if eligible, receive early intervention services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy or Community Based Rehabilitative Services (CBRS). Check out the North Carolina Early Intervention website for more information and to see if your child is on target developmentally.
For families in Cabarrus, Rowan, Stanly, Union or Iredell Counties, please call the Concord CDSA at 704-786-9181 if you suspect your child may have developmental delays.
