KIWEE Institute

Proposed to be located on the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC), KIWEE Institute (Kids Involved in Wellness, Education, and Enrichment) will be a model healthy child care center providing high quality child care, exceptional early childhood education, and a unique focus on programs to promote overall child health and the prevention of childhood obesity. This five-star child care center will develop an innovative curriculum focusing on proper nutrition, promoting healthier lifestyles and physical activity, and increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables. A holistic approach involving both parents and the community will seek to ensure that the healthy habits reinforced in the child care center will carry on in the home.

KIWEE will also serve as a training and research facility. Training and continuing education will be provided to other child care centers and their staff on the model healthy child care curriculum, as well as best practices in the child care industry. Scientists from the NCRC will also be able to utilize KIWEE and its students to conduct observational and other research related to child health, nutrition, and behavior.
