Russell Suda, M.D.
Physician/ Medical Director


Career Background: Dr. Suda began his career as a faculty member at the New York Medical College where he was the director of medical student education in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He had a dual appointment in the departments of OB/GYN and Pathology. He became a dually appointed faculty member at the University of Oklahoma in 1986 after leaving the New York Medical College. He was in a solo, and later a partnership practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1991 to 2002 in rural Washington State. He worked at both Fort Stewart and Fort Bragg during the two years while moving his family from Washington State to North Carolina.

Education: Dr. Suda received his A.B. degree in Biology at Washington University in St. Louis and his M.D. from St. Louis University. He completed a 3-year residency in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Missouri and a 4-year OB/GYN residency at the John’s Hopkins Hospital. He is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Professional, Business, and Civic Activities: Dr. Suda served as a member and chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at the University of Oklahoma and was the recipient of the Medical Student Teaching Award for four years in succession. He was a member and chairman of the Infectious Disease Committee in rural Washington. He was the director of the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Snohomish County, Washington from 1998-2002. He was President of the Medical Staff at the Cascade Valley Hospital from 1999-2000.

Personal: Dr. Suda was born on November 18, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri. He has been married to Linda since August 11, 1979 and is the father of three children; Russell Jr., Lauren and Alex. He is an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.
 

Linny M. Baker, M.D., FAAP
Physician


Career Background: Dr. Baker began his pediatric career at the Cabarrus Pediatric Clinic in 1963 and practiced there for 36 years. Joined the Cabarrus Health Alliance on July 1, 1999. Also became Associate Medial Director of NorthEast Health Managed Care organization in February 1999.

Education: Dr. Baker received his B.S. degree in Pre Medical from Davidson College 1956. Graduated Summa Cum Laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa. He received his M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine in 1960 where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his Pediatric internship and residency at Duke Hospital from 1960-63, serving as Chief Resident 1962-63.

Professional, Business and Civic Activities: Dr. Baker has served 20 years as a Sunday School Teacher at St. James Lutheran Church. Presently on Church Council, serving as Chairman of Stewardship committee. He is a member of Cabarrus County Medical Society, and has served as Vice President and President. He is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society, an active staff member of NorthEast Medical Center and previously served as Chief of Pediatrics and Chief of Staff at NorthEast Medical Center. He is a former member and chairman of the Cabarrus County Board of Health.

Personal: Dr. Baker was born on March 11, 1934 in West Jefferson, North Carolina. Dr. Baker is the father of 3 children and the grandfather of 5.
 

Rosolena Visco Conroy, M.D.


Career Background: Dr. Conroy joined the Cabarrus Health Alliance in June 1999 as a Pediatric Primary Care Provider.

Education: Dr. Conroy received her M.D. degree in 1988 from State University of New York. She completed an Internship and Residency in the Department of Pediatrics at the same institution.

Professional, Business and Civic Activities: Dr. Conroy serves as Chairman of the Community Care Advisory Board, Carolina ACCESS III Pilot Projection in Concord, North Carolina and was an active member of the Quality Care Committee, St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, New York.
 

Karol C. Cheek, MD
Physician


Career Background: Dr. Cheek has served as the Medical Director at the Cabarrus Health Alliance since 1990. She also has served as the physician for the Cabarrus County Jail Health Program since 1992 and has been an active Community Free Clinic Volunteer since 1994 in Concord, North Carolina. Dr. Cheek retired in 2002 and continues part-time with the Cabarrus Health Alliance.

Education: Dr. Cheek received her M.D. degree in 1987 from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina. She also completed a residency in family practice at the same institution.

Dr. Cheek has 15 years of teaching experience as an instructor at the Central Piedmont Community College, teaching Biology, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Chemistry for Nurses, Dental and Human Nutrition, and Microbiology course. She serves as Preceptor for nursing students, and nurse practitioners in training as well as medical students and residents.

Dr. Cheek is co-author of the Laboratory Guide and Audio-Tutorial Instruction for Anatomy and Physiology, 1982.

Professional, Business and Civic Activities: Dr. Cheek serves as a member of the World Vision International Child Sponsor, Waring Library Society, Red Cross Representative (CPCC), and Faculty Senate (CPCC).

Personal: Dr. Cheek is an active member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church.  She is also currently serving as Duke University Medical Center's Consulting Associate in the Department of Community and Family Medicine.
 

Dr. Valerie A. Sakach
Director CHA-ADHD Neurobehavioral Clinic


Career Background: Dr. Sakach became the Director of ADHD Neurobehavioral Clinic for the Cabarrus Health Alliance in September 2000.

Education: Dr. Sakach received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and did her residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Professional, Business and Civic Activities:  Dr. Valerie A. Sakach is a board certified pediatrician with 20 years experience in general and behavioral pediatrics.

Dr. Sakach is currently chairman of Cabarrus County Partnership for Children (SmartStart) and is on the Healthy Cabarrus Board and Cabarrus County School Drop-out Prevention Task Force.
 

Manuel Lopez, DDS
Dentist


Career Background: Dr. Lopez joined CHA as a Dentist in February of 2001.  

Education: Dr. Lopez attended the School of Dentistry Higher Institute of Medical Science Havana, Cuba. He graduated in 1979 with a Doctor of Dentistry.  He practiced as a General Dentist in Havana, Cuba from 1979 to 1995.  In 1997 he enrolled at New York University College of Dentistry in the Advanced Training Program for Graduated Dentists in foreign countries where he received his D.D.S. in 2000.  Dr. Lopez has advanced training in Primary Care in Periodontics, Oral Surgery and Prevention and Early Detection of Oral Cancer. 

Professional, Business and Civic Activities: Dr. Lopez participated in the Latin American Congress of Promotion of Oral Health and International Conference on the Prevention of Oral Cancer.

Career Background: Dr. Marti Graduated from Howard University in May 2004.
