Partnerships For Life
What Is Healthy Cabarrus?
Healthy Cabarrus, a Certified Healthy Carolinians Partnership, is a collaborative alliance of community representatives and leaders from healthcare, government, business and industry, community service agencies, medical service providers, the general population and the faith community. Recognizing that many of today's community health problems are too complex for one group or agency to solve alone, our mission is to unite together to commit our time, talents, and financial resources to the creation of a healthy community. NorthEast Medical Center and Cabarrus Health Alliance joined forces in creating this community health initiative and continue to be the primary financial supporters. Healthy Cabarrus received state certification as a Healthy Carolinians Partnership in 1999 and recertification in 2001 and 2005.
Healthy Cabarrus was recognized at a state level when it received the William G. Anlyan Award. Named for Dr. William Anlyan, who was the first chairperson of the Governor's Task Force for Healthy Carolinians. The award is given to a certified Healthy Carolinians partnership that has distinguished itself in the community work it has accomplished. Healthy Cabarrus received the award at the annual Healthy Carolinians Conference when it received it's 2005 recertification.

Healthy Cabarrus Priority Areas and Task Force Groups
Setting priorities based on community needs assessment allows us to focus on the real needs of the community. Priority issues being addressed by Healthy Cabarrus include:
· Access to Dental Care
· Health Disparities: Access to Healthcare and Prescription Medications; Prostate Cancer in African American men
· Mental Health
· Substance Abuse/Tobacco
· Teen Health Issues
Through collaboration we maximize our community resources and are recognized by grantors and foundations as standing ready to work together in solving problems. To date we have established community task forces that are working on Access to Dental Care and Teen Issues. In addition, we initiate action to address access to healthcare issues and are active on boards and committees studying transportation issues in our community. We actively partner with other groups and agencies in planning and grant writing efforts to bring services and programs to Cabarrus County.
