Getting Started with Your Physical Activity Plan

Physical activity is anything that gets your body moving. According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, you need to do two types of physical activity each week to improve your health–aerobic and muscle-strengthening.

If you haven’t already, read the guidelines for your age group and watch the Physical Activity Basics Video Series.  These resources help explain minimum levels of physical activity for health, give you tips on how to reach those levels safely, and show you how to do muscle strengthening exercises properly so you prevent injury.

For most of us, getting started can be the hardest part. Walking is a great way to get the physical activity needed to obtain health benefits. Walking does not require any special skills. It also does not require a gym membership or expensive equipment.

Cabarrus Health Alliance recommends that Cabarrus County residents follow the Exercise is Medicine (EIM) Prescription below for better health.  If your doctor has already written an exercise prescription specific to your needs, please follow their recommendations.
